Outlier has created a discussion community for our students to engage directly with their classmates using a tool called Yellowdig. This will serve as a replacement for Slack discussions.
You can access your Yellowdig discussion community on your first day of class beginning at 9am PST (12pm EST).
To join, head to your Outlier Account and select your course. From the course page, click the dropdown menu in the top right and select your course's "discussion" link.
You can also access your Yellowdig community by going to the Course Resource page in the Links section.
Your cohort's Yellowdig community will house resources and important announcements.
The Student Success Team will share important updates in your community (such as deadlines and announcements) as well as recommendations for section assignments to stay on pace with the course material.
Your participation in the course is worth 5% of your final grade. To earn your weekly participation grade, we recommend that you:
Ask a question you are struggling with -or-
Provide a suggestion for something you found useful -or-
Answer one of your peers’ questions by starting a thread under their question.
You can also give examples, share resources, and post screenshots or videos in the discussion threads to support your thoughts and ideas. When you actively and genuinely engage in the conversations happening in your Yellowdig community, you increase your chances of learning and retaining the course material. Successful Outlier Students use Yellowdig to reflect on the material, share their ideas and perspectives with others, and question what they've learned with a critical lens.

We ask all students in our Yellowdig community to follow these simple guidelines:
- Ask and answer questions.
- Connect with your peers.
- Treat everyone with respect.
- Do not post quiz or exam questions.
- Contact Outlier by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or using the Help button from your student dashboard.

If you wish to add information to your Yellowdig profile (such as full name, job description/title, phone number, and time zone) we welcome you to do so, but please be aware that everyone invited to the Outlier Yellowdig community can view this information.
